Have you ever had a strange sound in your ears, such as a ringing, buzzing, hissing, chirping, or whistling? If you have, you’re far from alone, though the severity of the sound can vary. This sound may actually be the result of a condition commonly referred to as tinnitus. Many people notice the noise throughout the day, but especially when they try to sleep or are somewhere quiet.

Would you be surprised to learn that tinnitus is actually fairly common and that our dentist could help? In fact, nearly one in five people are affected by tinnitus. While the symptoms can be unpleasant, our dentist may be able to help. You see, while tinnitus is often caused by age-related hearing loss, ear injury, or circulatory system disorder, it can also be caused by TMJD–which our team can help you address.

If your tinnitus is caused by TMJ disorder, you may consider various treatments. For instance, our team may recommend using an anti-inflammatory to relieve TMJ pain. We may also recommend oral splints or mouth guards. These splints and mouthguards can also help you if you’re suffering from jaw pain. In extreme cases, we may also recommend a surgical approach.

If you have TMJD, or are worried that you might, our dentist, Dr. Michael Sanchez, DDS can help. If you’re interested in learning more about TMJD, tinnitus, or in scheduling an appointment with our team, we invite you to contact Renaissance Dental by calling 918-272-0707. We’ll be happy to address any questions you may have. We’re excited to hear from you soon.
