Before you head to bed, you need to properly clean and care for your teeth and gums! If you don’t practice good oral hygiene before bed, the harmful particles in your smile will attack your oral cavity throughout the night and cause major dental issues. So, our Renaissance Dental team asks you to properly clean your smile before bed by doing the following things:

-Brush your teeth: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and brush your teeth for two minutes. Make sure you thoroughly scrub each tooth in your mouth. As you brush, be gentle and thorough. Being rough might irritate your gums and make them move away from your teeth.

-Floss your smile: Floss between your teeth with a flossing product of your choice, but be gentle along the gumline as you do so. Flossing will help remove the harmful particles from between your teeth, reducing your chances of having tooth decay and gum disease.

-Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth with a beneficial mouthwash. Rinse for the recommended amount of time on the bottle, and make sure to follow the additional instructions. Rinsing will help you complete the smile-cleaning job and will kill the bacteria in your mouth that threaten to destroy your teeth.

-Be aware of teeth grinding: Teeth grinding is a destructive habit that can wear down and fracture your teeth. This habit typically occurs at night while you are sleeping, so it’s best to protect your smile with a mouthguard. So, if you tend to grind your teeth, make sure to wear your mouthguard.

Doing these four things before bed will help you have the pristine oral health you deserve. To learn more about oral hygiene in Owasso, Oklahoma, please call our office at 918-272-0707.
